  • The county put down Mag-chloride on August 28th on the Alpine and again on Aug. 30th. This should help with the dust on that road.
  • Notice: A former astronomy professor will be staying at the Inn the night of Sept. 8th and has volunteered to do an informal, outdoor presentation for any folks who might be interested. This "night under the stars" could be a lot of fun not to mention interesting especially if we have one of our usual lovely evenings. Exact sight and time are TBD. Contact the Inn for more information. Thanks Kathy Leary for passing the word around.

  • Labor Day brought lots of folks up to the mountains for the last long weekend of the summer. People were out enjoying our great weather. The Inn also topped the weekend off with a cowboy band and dance.

  • The amount of bear sightings this year has been heavy all over Colorado.
The August 23rd edition of Gunnison Country Times has an article titled “Bears stir concern over behavior” by Will Shoemaker.
  • In the article, Will reports, “We had a little more moisture in April and May with a late frost”. “That typically leads to crop failure-plants which in the fall are a huge source of food for bears.” Around Gunnison, bears typically begin feeding on serviceberries and chokecherries in late summer, eating 20-22 hours per day to get the calories they need before entering their dens for hibernation between late September and mid-November.
  • Thanks Lucia LeBon for bringing this article to our attention.
  • Also in the Gunnison Country Times is an ad stating Feed Bears/ Get Fined! The Colorado Division of Wildlife will issue citations to those who do not clean-up bear attractants on their properties. Fines: $68 and up.
