The 2008 AVFD Picnic

From the gunny sack race to the auction and raffle: family and friends enjoyed the old fashioned picnic. Someone asked, “Where else can you go and participate in this kind of a wholesome event”? We are thankful to all the Arrowhead volunteers and all who participated in one way or another for this worthy cause.

Gayle Huddleston reports that sales were up for the Fire Dept. in meals, general raffle, the flea market, clothing merchandise, vendor booth fees and as well as donations. This year was a close second to 2005’s high profits for the AVFD.

Gary Kelly, Bruce McGoldrick and Eric Johnson calling out those winners!

The line may have been long at times but the food was worth it.

The team of cooks lead by Billie Ellis, Becky Stilley and Carla Vavrik (just to mention a few) brought smiles to hungry faces.

Joanie lead volunteers in helping with the kids' games.

Jeanne Rush and Craig Pugh took a break from selling tickets to sample their plates.

Everyone got a chance to play.

Even though it was a little overcast at times and cooler temperatures these 3 ladies had smiles for the camera!

Cheri and Shirley worked the Shutterbugs Photography Booth.

Most of all we had fun.

A big thanks goes out to Robb Pennie (the website guy), also a property owner at Arrowhead, who just happens to be great with a camera for all the Picnic photos.

Highway 50 Widening through Blue Creek Canyon

There has been some talk about widening Hwy 50 and Rich Leary found out the following information on this from David Eller, Region 3 Program Engineer West:

I'm responding to your request for information on SH 50, specifically scheduled construction in Blue Creek Canyon.

This corridor is currently in the design phase, and we hope to have plans on the shelf by the fall/winter of 2009. We will also be purchasing Right of Way and preparing the appropriate environmental clearances to have construction projects ready for advertisement.

CDOT currently has no money identified for construction in this section. However, it is a high priority for the Gunnison Valley Transportation Planning Region, and if funding does come to this area in the near future CDOT will be ready to deliver a project. We are hopeful that state and federal funding for transportation improvements such as these will be a priority in the upcoming years.
